Transfer rumour: Luis Suarez to leave Barcelona this summer if Catalans sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid
Former Anfield star Luis Suarez could be on the hunt for a new club if Nou Camp bosses get their way…
Barcelona will look to sell former Liverpool star Luis Suarez this summer if they win the race for Antoine Griezmann, according to reports in Spain.
Griezmann is widely expected to join Barca from LaLiga rivals Atletico Madrid this summer, despite interest from Premier League giants Manchester United.
And it is claimed the French forward’s arrival will force Suarez out of the Nou Camp.
Barcelona have a wealth of attacking talent in their ranks already and it is suggested it will be a case of one-in, one-out if they sign Griezmann.
And reports from Radio Cataluna claim the 31-year-old Suarez will be the man to leave to make room for the France international due to his age.
Suarez has been a sensation since arriving in Catalonia from Liverpool in 2014.
The Uruguayan ace has scored 151 goals and 86 assists in 196 appearances in a Barcelona shirt, but he is one of the older players in the Spanish giants’ squad.
Ousmane Dembele – who has struggled to settle following his move from Germany – is just 20-years-old and will be given more time to develop, while 25-year-old Philippe Coutinho only arrived from Liverpool in January.
Paco Alcacer, 24, has provided decent back-up service at the Nou Camp, while there is no chance global superstar Lionel Messi, 30, will leave.
Griezmann signed a new contract at Atletico Madrid last summer, but his release clause was halved from £175m down to £87million.
He has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, but it appears Barcelona have won the race for the French star.
Suarez has previously welcomed the idea of adding Griezmann to the squad – but seemed oblivious to the idea it could force him out of the club.
He said: “It makes the club proud to bring players of this quality like Antoine, like Dembele and Coutinho came.
"He’s a player who brings a huge amount, he has a lot of years playing at the highest level, always fighting.
"He rules up front for Atletico and that is fundamental.
"He is not coming to take the place of anyone, but with the ambition of winning important things.
"He will be welcomed."
