Transfer news: Liverpool register interest in Schalke star – but he favours Barcelona move
Liverpool have made an official approach for Leon Goretzka – but he has his heart set on a move to Barcelona, according to reports in Spain.
The Schalke star has emerged as one of the most in-demand players in the whole of Europe.
The 22-year-old has become a mainstay in Schalke's midfield since arriving from Bochum in 2013 and has racked up 99 Bundesliga appearances already.
However, with his contract set to expire in June, a move to one of Europe's biggest clubs appears to be on the cards.
Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with big-money bids while while Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are said to be eyeing swoops.
Barca also retain a strong interest and, according to El Mundo Deportivo, Goretzka wants to chance his arm at the Nou Camp.
However, it has also been suggested that they are behind Liverpool in the race because the Merseyside club have already made contact about a move.
Now it is up to Schalke to decide whether they cash in on him in January or allow him to leave as a free agent in the summer when they would receive only a compensation package for his departure.
