'Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Harry Kane are the future' – Gary Lineker adds to Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo's woes
Cristiano Ronaldo has had a tough season
Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo’s decline is becoming more evident with ex-Barcelona striker Gary Lineker insisting he will lose his place amongst football’s elite very soon, with Harry Kane to take his place.
Los Blancos star Ronaldo has endured a tough campaign in LaLiga and while his own form has improved, his team sit fourth in the table, 19 points behind Barca with just one game in hand.
And as the 33-year-old’s influence wanes, Lineker, in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, seemed to suggest his decline was becoming very apparent.
When asked 'Ronaldo or Messi?' he replied: 'I like Cristiano a lot, but Messi is from another world.'
Lineker was then asked, 'Ronaldo or Neymar?' and he said: 'Neymar, but when he played in Barcelona. Neymar is the future, Cristiano has been great.'
And the final question was between Kane and the five-time Balon d’Or winner, and he answered: 'For the future, Kane!'
When pressed about Real Madrid’s poor form this season, Lineker, like many others, was unable to pinpoint the exact cause.
He added: 'I'm surprised, I do not know what happened with Real Madrid this season because last season, they won almost everything.
'It's hard to explain, confidence is very important for the players, maybe some players are a bit older, I don't know if that's it.'
